Visit the magical Christmas markets of the Rhine Valley on this spectacular 7 day break. Nestled along the Rhine river bank, often with towering rocks in the back, the Christmas Markets have a particularly enchanting atmosphere. We head to the picturesque towns dotted along the banks of the River Rhine and enjoy the festive atmosphere of quaint little towns such as Rüdesheim, Cochem and Koblenz. The most typical thing to drink at the Christmas Markets located in the Rhine villages is hot wine made in the Rhine Valley. Every year during Advent, the Rhine-Moselle towns are transformed into an atmospheric pre-Christmas paradise, as the scent of freshly roasted almonds, mulled wine and gingerbread wafts through the streets. You will find traditional stalls adorned with handmade gifts, making this a perfect festive break.

Day 1 - Sunday

Afternoon departure from your local pick-up point and we travel to Hull for our overnight ferry to Rotterdam.

Day 2 - Monday

We reboard the coach and travel through the Netherlands into Germany. Take in the beautiful scenery as we head to the Bellevue Rheinhotel in Boppard, where you will spend the next 4 nights. On our afternoon arrival, enjoy a welcome drink before settling in to your new surroundings.

Day 3 - Tuesday

This morning, we travel to Cochem following the Moselle Valley. Known for its historic half-timbered houses and fabulous Reichsburg Castle, you will see the festively decorated stalls within a lovely old town setting. Don’t forget to sample some of the local white mulled wine, a Moselle specialty, or try some of the many tasty delicacies.

Day 4 - Wednesday

This morning we make the short journey to the city of Koblenz which is famed for the mighty Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. You will have the day at leisure to visit the Deutsches Eck (German Corner) on the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers where you can stroll through the festively decorated city centre. The traditional Koblenz Christmas Market is one of the most popular Christmas Markets in Germany, and the stalls spread over several locations in the Old City (squares such as: Munzplatz, Am Plan, Josef- Görres-platz, Jesuitenplatz and and Willi- Hörter-Platz) offer a huge selection of gifts, arts, crafts and Christmas decorations. All the flavours of Christmas are here, including spicy mulled wine and sweet-smelling Christmas cakes. Explore and find the city's largest Advent calendar, composed of the colourfully lit dormer windows of the baroque town hall on Jesuitenplatz.

Day 5 - Thursday

Today’s excursion takes us across the river to the ‘wine town’ of Rüdesheim. Rüdesheim has one of Germany’s prettiest Christmas markets with stalls representing different nations from around the world. The festively decorated Christmas stands provide lots of handmade arts and crafts; candles, decorations, wood figures, wood carvings, glass engravings, ‘schwibbogen’ arched candles, mangers, pewter casters and dolls. Don’t forget to explore the vibrant ‘Drosselgasse’, a narrow alley lined with restaurants, shops and bars - the perfect place to enjoy a glass of local wine or beer.

Day 6 - Friday

We say ‘Auf Wiedersehen’ to our hotel and begin our journey back to Rotterdam, calling at Cologne for lunch and an opportunity to make the most of the last Christmas Market during our stay in Germany. Later, we board the ferry for the return crossing.

Day 7 - Saturday

We depart the ferry in Hull and make our way home.

A traditional, family owned and run 4-star Hotel in Boppard, the perfect location to explore the local Christmas markets on the Rhine at this festive time of year. This elegant, 4 star ‘superior’ hotel is situated on the main riverside promenade, only a stone’s throw from the centre of the town and surrounded by the UNESCO "Upper Middle Rhine Valley". During your stay, guests can relax in the hotel’s bar or admire the stunning view of the river through the windows of the wood-panelled restaurant. The hotel also has a sauna, steam bath and ‘Romanesque’ styled indoor swimming pool.
