Norway - Fjords, Glaciers, Lakes & Mountains



Travel through Holland and Germany and spend a night in Denmark before crossing to Norway to enjoy a wonderful tour through one of the World's most unique landscapes.


Day 1

Afternoon departure to Hull for the comfortable overnight crossing to Rotterdam.

Day 2

Arrive in The Netherlands and onwards to Germany for the overnight hotel.

Day 3

We continue into Germany past Hamburg and cross the border into Denmark near Flensburg and continue to Scandic Aalborg Ost, Aalborg for a late check in, dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4

Proceed north through Jutland to Hirtshals for the fast craft ferry to Norway. Following the arrival in Larvik travel inland to enjoy a first taste of the pristine scenery for which Norway is so rightly famed. Travel via Porsgrunn and Skien and then through wonderful lakeland scenery, passing Bo and crossing the famous Telemark Canal to arrive at Vrådal for a 2 night stay.

Day 5

At leisure in Vrådal. In the afternoon we include a 2 hour cruise on Lake Nisser on the veteran boat MS Fram. The Fram dates from 1909 and the scenic cruise includes narrow straits, a journey between the small islands and through an old dock.

Day 6

Today depart Vrådal and travel to Brunkenberg before crossing the Haukelifjell Mountain Road and descending to the Sorfjord, a branch of the Hardangerfjord, at Odda. Arrive in Utne and take the short ferry journey across the Hardangerfjord to Kvanndal. North then, past Voss and then towards Gudvangen before climbing up onto the Vik Mountains. We then descend towards Vik with exciting views onto and across the mighty Sognesfjord. Here we take the ferry across the fjord to arrive in the beautiful village of Balestrand. Check in at Kviknes Hotel for a 3 night stay.

Day 7

Late morning we take a short ferry crossing and make a short trip along the fjord, with a stop for lunchtime refreshments in Sogndal. Proceed then in  the afternoon for a visit to the Sogn Folk Museum in Kaupanger - This museum has both outdoor and indoor exhibits.

Day 8

A full day "Glacier Route" excursion. After breakfast ascend the Gaularfjell High Mountain road, one of Norway's National Tourist Routes. The road twists and turns through no less than nine dramatic hairpin bends. In the afternoon we reach the Norwegian Glacier Museum. Situated close to Fjaerland, it includes a video presentation of the Jostedal Glacier and there are then a range of "hands on exhibits" including some genuine glacier ice, as well as a café.

Day 9

Today is a full scenic journey including spectacular fjords, river valleys and Norway's southern coastline. Start the day with 2 short fjord ferry crossings before joining the old Oslo/Bergen post route through the Laerdal Valley with a short photo stop at the Borgund Stave Church.

Day 10

An early breakfast before departing the hotel & joining the fast ferry departure from Norway to Denmark. There will be time to relax on board before the arrival into Denmark at Hirtshals.

Day 11

Travel across Germany and through the Netherlands for the overnight sailing to Hull.

Day 12

Morning arrival into Hull and travel home.
