Isle of Man

Steeped in myth and legend and fiercely proud of its diverse culture, the “Kingdom of Man” has an
enchanting story to tell. We include two rail journeys to showcase the best of the island as you sit
back, relax and take in the beautiful coastal scenery.

Day 1

Early start to the day, we make our way to Heysham for the 3 ¾ hr sailing to Douglas. From the port it’s just a very short drive to the hotel.

Day 2

We begin with a ride on the Snaefell Mountain Railway. Enjoy the climb from the historic village of Laxey, home to ‘Isabella’, the world’s largest working waterwheel, to the summit of Snaefell, one of the highest mountains on the Isle of Man. On a clear day five kingdoms can be seen from the top of Snaefell: Isle of Man, England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Return on the train to Laxey for some free time.

Day 3

Today we visit Douglas. This thriving coastal town is the capital of the Isle of Man and home to a lovely promenade, shopping area and Manx Museum where you can uncover 10,000 years of the Island’s history.

Day 4

Hop on the IOM steam railway, with its original locos and carriages, for a 16 mile journey meandering through rolling countryside to Port Erin, where we have some free time before rejoining the coach to Cregneash, the first open air folk museum in the British Isles. You will see small thatched cottages dotted around the village, plough horses, Loaghtan sheep, shorthorn cows, pigs and Manx cats. Step inside the Manx cottages to see how crofters lived through stories, skills and craft demonstrations. Afterwards, a scenic coastal drive visiting Port St Mary.
Cregneash Village Accessibility
Cregneash is a living village and has many historic buildings to explore. Much of the village is accessible to visitors using wheelchairs and scooters, and there are tarmacked roads and paths throughout the village. There are also a number of cobbled paths leading to buildings and farm tracks to explore. The village is not flat and there are a number of moderately steep paths. There are seating areas around the site. Many of the buildings to explore have narrow gateways and narrow doorways which may not be accessible to wheelchair and scooter users.

Day 5

Free day in Ramsey. The hotel is a 10-minute walk from the main shopping area, known for its small independent boutiques and novelty gift shops.

Day 6

After breakfast we return to Douglas port for the crossing back to Heysham and onwards to home areas.
