' Downton Abbey ' Cotswold

'Downton Abbey' Cotswolds
We bring ‘Downton Abbey’ to life with this new tour as we combine a tour of Highclere Castle – or, as you may know it ‘Downton Abbey’ – and the village of Brampton where many of the outdoor scenes where filmed.

Day 1

Morning departure from your local joining point to Oxford. Here we have the afternoon at leisure for sightseeing and shopping. Later, re-join the coach as we continue to our hotel in Reading

Day 2

Today is the highlight of the tour, a visit to Highclere Castle & Gardens. Enjoy a self guided tour of the magnificent State Rooms where scenes of Downton Abbey were filmed. You can also visit the Egyptian Exhibition in the cellars. The Castle was the seat, 100 years ago, of the 5th Earl of Carnarvon, who famously discovered the Tomb of the Egyptian Boy Pharaoh, Tutankhamun, in 1922 with his archaeological colleague, Howard Carter. The exhibition celebrates the 5th Earls achievements.
We return to Andover for some free time.

Day 3

After a leisurely start we visit Brampton. Many of ‘Downton Abbey’s’ outdoor scenes were filmed here including St Mary’s Church, the village pub, the Library and Matthew Crawley’s house. After a short stop in Bampton we continue onto Morton on Marsh, a picturesque market town in the Cotswolds. Rejoin the coach mid-afternoon as we continue our return journey.
